CONTEXTUAL BIBLE STUDY

The Bible study meets usually fortnightly except during holiday times. During Lent and Advent, there are normally weekly meetings. These are held in the Rectory and all are welcome to attend. Dates are printed in the Oystercatcher and announced on Sunday mornings.

The contextual method of Bible study was introduced to some of us 4 years ago at a congregational retreat weekend by Professor John Riches. This approach allows those with an extensive Bible knowledge and those with very little to participate equally in learning about the text being studied and in engaging in the search to find the meaning of the scriptures in our lives and for our times.

All studies, even those which are part of a series are designed to stand alone - there is no commitment or obligation to attend each one. Altogether 18 people have been to the Bible study, there is normally an attendance of about 10 to each meeting.

Please ask the Rector if you would like copies of the notes of the Bible studies.

Notes from meetings will be posted here.

CONTEMPLATIVE PRAYER

Each month, usually on the fourth Wednesday at 2pm, a group meets in church to practice Contemplative Prayer. Using a variety of resources we aim to spend time learning to be receptive to God's promptings, learning to be more aware of the presence of God in the world and in our day to day lives.
